Registered Nurse (RN) – Trauma ICU (TICU)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (06:30–18:30)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Trauma ICU with 18 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:1–2 in ICU, 1:4 in Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Patient population: Adults and pediatrics over 15 years old with various trauma injuries, sepsis, stroke, ARDS, MODS, COPD, cardiac arrest
- Level 1 trauma center, frequently receives transfers and ED admits
- Common equipment and monitoring: CVPs, IABP, Impella (core staff will take if no experience), Arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, EV-1000, ICP monitoring (training provided)
- Use of Zoll-Thermoguard for hypothermia protocol and Bell Mont rapid transfuse system
Clinical Responsibilities
- Titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- Interpret cardiac telemetry strips independently (Draeger heart monitoring system with centralized telemetry)
- Assist with respiratory equipment from nasal cannula to ventilators (troubleshooting only)
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignments
- Supported by nurse aides/patient care technicians at a ratio of 1:18
- Floating required to inpatient units except Maternity and NICU
Orientation & Scheduling
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts
- Self-scheduling allowed, managed by unit manager based on needs
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license in good standing
- ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation (skills learned on unit)
- Driver’s license required at time of application to verify distance compliance
- No history of license or background issues allowed
- Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas (non-compliance may result in contract termination)
- Prior travel experience required; first-time travelers will not be accepted
Additional Notes
- Fast-paced environment with critically ill patients
- Successful nurses demonstrate strong critical thinking, a positive attitude, personable demeanor, and teamwork skills
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated health systems
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions will be approved
