Registered Nurse (ER) - Oregon, Pendleton
Job Details
- Specialty: Emergency Room (ER)
- Location: Pendleton, Oregon
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights (19:00 - 07:00)
- Hours: 12 hours per shift, approximately 36 hours per week
- Unit: ER with 11 beds/trauma bays
- Patient Volume: Approximately 37 patients per day
- Patient-to-Nurse Ratio: 1:3-4
- Trauma Level: Level 4
- EMR System: Meditech
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
- Orientation: Unit-specific, 2-3 days of 12-hour shifts
Work Environment & Responsibilities
- ER RNs manage all ER functions including triage, patient holds, phlebotomy, and reading cardiac monitors.
- No separate fast track; direct bed placement until full, then quick triage.
- Separate psych/seclusion rooms available.
- In-house security present.
- Imaging (X-Ray, CT) located adjacent to ER; transport handled by imaging department.
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7; ER RNs do not perform RT procedures.
- Occasional use of nurse aides, paramedics, or patient sitters.
- Call or standby is rare.
- Floating is optional and usually not required for ER staff.
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend, based on unit needs.
- Holiday work required unless specified off in contract.
Required Certifications & Skills
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Must be an independent thinker and self-motivated
- Prior ER nursing experience: 2-3 years required

- The ER is located near a major interstate and a well-known local landmark.
- Charge nurse role is typically filled by the triage RN for half the day.
- ED Physicians/Mid-level providers work 12-hour shifts.
- Monitor techs are not present; ER RNs interpret cardiac strips.
- Unit manager will conduct a phone interview as part of the profile review process.
