Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg (27-28 beds)
Patient Population: Adult patients with oncology and trauma diagnoses
Job Details
- Patient-to-nurse ratios:
- PCU: 1:4
- Med/Surg: 1:5 (days), 1:5-6 (nights)
- Common patient diagnoses: Oncology and trauma
- Common drips/medications: Chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix, insulin (occasionally titrated), cardizem (occasionally titrated)
- Specialty equipment: Ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000), ICP monitoring (training provided), Alaris IV pumps, Lyko lifts and other lift equipment
- EMR system: EPIC
- Float assignments: To med/surg and PCU units at the same level of care
- Orientation: 2 days
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Self-scheduling available
- Nursing assistant support and additional unit support staff (PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician) available
- Scrubs: Navy blue
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Active RN license
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS
- NIHSS certification
- Oncology certification preferred but not required (Chemotherapy certification preferred)
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU, oncology, or med/surg
- Experience required for charge nurse role: minimum 1 year
- Prior travel experience: Not required; first-time travelers are welcome
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided)
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities within the system
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify distance
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no extensions allowed
