Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location
- Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts (7p-7a)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Self-scheduling available
Unit and Patient Population
- Unit: 6 East
- Level of Care: Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Oncology, and Medical-Surgical
- Number of Beds: 27-28
- Patient Population: Adult patients
- Common Diagnoses: Oncology and trauma patients
- Patient Experience Focus: Hourly rounding, culturally sensitive care, respect for diverse beliefs and backgrounds
Staffing Ratios
- PCU Day: 1 RN to 4 patients
- Med/Surg Day: 1 RN to 5 patients
- Night: 1 RN to 5-6 patients
- Nursing Assistant support and charge nurse available
Required Certifications and Licenses
- Registered Nurse license (state-specific)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Chemotherapy Certification (Chemo Cert) required
- ONS/ONCC certification preferred
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU and/or Oncology
- Charge nurse experience: minimum 1 year required
- First-time travel nurses are welcome (no prior travel experience required)
Orientation and Training
- Orientation duration: 2 days
- Pass/fail exam during orientation requiring 90% to pass (open book, resources provided)
- Training available for ventilator use and hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000), ICP monitoring
- EMR system: EPIC
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Specialty equipment: Lyko lifts and other lift equipment
Clinical Responsibilities
- Care for oncology and trauma PCU patients
- Float to Med/Surg and PCU units as needed
- Titrate drips such as insulin (occasionally) and cardizem
- Administer chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix
Additional Requirements and Policies
- Must have a valid driver’s license at time of submission
- Must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility and not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
