Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg (27-28 beds)
Patient Population: Adult patients with oncology and trauma diagnoses
Job Details
- Patient-to-nurse ratios:
- PCU: 1:4
- Med/Surg: 1:5 (days), 1:5-6 (nights)
- Common patient diagnoses: Oncology and trauma
- Float assignments: Med/Surg and PCU units at the same level of care
- Orientation: 2 days
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Self-scheduling available
- Nursing assistant support and charge nurse present
- Additional unit support: PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician
- Scrubs color: Navy Blue
Required Certifications & Competencies
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of PCU (Progressive Care Unit) experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Oncology experience
- Trauma experience
- Experience in charge nurse roles
- Driver’s license required
- Ability to titrate insulin and cardizem drips
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU, Med Surg, or Oncology
- Charge nurse experience requires at least 1 year
- Oncology and PCU experience preferred
- First-time travel nurses are welcome (prior travel experience not required)
Clinical Responsibilities
- Titrate drips such as insulin (occasionally) and cardizem
- Administer chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix
- Provide care for oncology patients from diagnosis through remission or end-of-life support
- Participate in hourly rounding to enhance patient experience
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation (resources provided)
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate location (must be outside a 50-mile radius of the facility)
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated health system within the 50-mile radius
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no extensions allowed
