Job Opportunity: RN Step Down
Location: Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a step-down unit with a focus on PCU (Progressive Care Unit), Med-Surg, or Telemetry acute care patients.
- Placement will be based on the nurse’s skills and the greatest unit need (PCU, Med-Surg, or Telemetry).
- Candidates with experience as Med-Surg or Stepdown RNs are eligible (same credentialing applies).
- Must be able to float within skill set to other units onsite or to sites within a 40-mile radius as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Wisconsin.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in PCU (Progressive Care Unit), including experience within the last year.
- Experience in Med-Surg and Telemetry acute care.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Onboarding and Compliance Requirements
- Completion of specialty competency exams and skills checklists prior to or at start, including:
- Specialty exam with minimum 80% passing score.
- EKG exam with minimum 80% passing score.
- Core competencies covering HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory topics.
- Health and immunization documentation including:
- MMR (two vaccines or positive titer; no declinations accepted).
- Varicella immunity or vaccination (no declinations accepted).
- Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
- Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Influenza vaccine recommended during flu season (mask required if declined).
- Tuberculosis screening with 2-step PPD or IGRA and annual TB questionnaire.
- Fit test for respiratory protection (preferred before start).
- Statement of good health or physical exam prior to assignment.
- Drug screening: 12-panel drug test within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.
- Background checks including criminal history, employment verification, and professional references.
- Verification of education and licensure with primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Driver’s license or state ID matching address requirements.
- Completion of onboarding modules and attestations specific to the employer’s policies.
- Epic electronic health record test-out and training checklist with signed attestation.

- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
