Operating Room Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Overview
- Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
- Work Setting: Main Operating Room covering General, Neuro, Spine, Orthopedics, Robotics, Urology, Vascular, Colorectal surgeries
- Circulate and Scrub experience is required (hard stop)
- Unit Systems: Epic, Pyxis, 2 Da Vinci XI Robots
- Average daily census: 35 patients across 16 rooms
- Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (6:30 AM - 7:00 PM)
- Weekend shifts: Average 2-3 per contract period
- Call Requirements: 7-8 calls in a 6-week schedule plus 1 weekend call and 1-2 weekend shifts
- Floating: Rare
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
- Scrub color provided by facility
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Georgia
- Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Circulate and Scrub experience in OR required
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS required prior to start
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, NIH Stroke Certification, and other certifications may be required depending on specialty/unit (refer to clinical track if applicable)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required by agency (not client)
- Color Blind Testing required; alternative assessment available if needed
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for Telemetry and critical care areas (not specifically stated for this OR role)
- Competency Exam required by agency (not client)
Compliance & Orientation
- Full compliance with all documentation and credentialing required to start on time; delays result in 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Non-billable orientation hours depend on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
- Clinical screen and manager approval required before final assignment
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start (agency requirement)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable; cannot start with results pending
- Background check required within 30 days of start; must include county, national, sex offender, criminal, and education verification
- TB testing (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months; if positive, negative chest x-ray within 6 months required
- TB Questionnaire required annually regardless of TB status
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly recommended (one dose within past 10 years)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
- Drug testing panels include Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, Benzodiazepines, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Opiates, Methadone, Phencyclidine, Propoxyphene, THC
Additional Requirements
- Two clinical references required by agency
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months required
- Verification of most recent work history required; can be pending at start with proof of processing (due within 30 days post start)
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start
Work Expectations for Holidays
- If one major holiday falls during assignment, traveler is expected to work it
- If two major holidays fall during assignment, traveler is expected to work both
- If three major holidays fall during assignment, traveler is expected to work two of them
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
This position is suitable for RNs with OR experience seeking a travel contract in Georgia, working primarily day shifts in a high-tech surgical environment. Prior travel experience is not required.
