Description

Registered Nurse – ER (Travel/Contract)

Location: Dothan, Alabama
Shift: Evening (3:00 PM – 3:00 AM), 3 shifts per week, 12 hours per shift
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Provide nursing care in the Emergency Room setting during evening shifts.


Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Preferred (not required):

  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Licensure

  • Must hold a current Alabama RN license or a compact state RN license at time of submission (no pending licenses accepted).
  • License must be active and not expiring during the assignment without proof of renewal before start.
  • Name on RN license must exactly match name on Driver’s License and Social Security Card.

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required.
  • First-time travel nurses accepted (prior travel experience NOT required).

Location & Eligibility

  • Candidates must reside outside a 90-mile radius from the facility.
  • Former permanent staff are not eligible for travel assignments for 10 years.

Schedule & Time Off

  • Requested time off (RTO) preferred 3–5 days, maximum 7 days per 13-week contract.

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License (name must match RN license).
  • Social Security Card or last four digits confirmed.
  • E-Verify attestation confirming work eligibility in the US.
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history, SS trace, counties, nationwide, FACIS Level 3, sex offender, education verification. Must be updated annually and completed within 30 days prior to start.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals.
  • Education verification via clearinghouse or official transcript.
  • NURSYS verification required for RN license.
  • HIPAA attestation and Core Exams I-III (preferred from Prophecy; RN network Orientation Module not accepted).
  • Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form: must be hand-signed and completed prior to orientation with witness signature; clearance required before start.
  • Facility-specific modules must be completed by the Friday prior to start (includes additional Apex trainings for ER).
  • Photo for badge: passport-style headshot with light background, no nose rings, submitted within 72 hours of signing.
  • Vaccination exemption forms (religious/medical) must be completed on facility-specific forms if applicable.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually.
  • Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start (specific approved mask models only).
  • Negative TB test (PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if past positive, clear chest X-ray within 1 year plus annual TB questionnaire.
  • Immunizations or titers required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required for all placements starting on or after September 15; no declinations accepted except medical or religious exemptions on facility form (mask required if exempt).
  • COVID vaccine is voluntary.
  • Drug testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually; instant/rapid tests not accepted.

References & History

  • Proof of 2 clinical references within the last 12 months (up to 18 months if necessary).
  • Complete employment application/resume.
  • Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually.

Uniform

  • Scrub color: Navy or White

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Alabama
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) experience
  • Emergency Department experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • NIHSS certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
