Registered Nurse (RN) – Intensive Care Unit (ICU) (Days)

Location: Grinnell, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work primarily in ICU with occasional float to stepdown and Med Surg units.
• ICU unit details: 5 beds ICU, 3 stepdown beds; nurse-to-patient ratio typically 1:2, sometimes 1:3 during overflow.
• Patient types include ventilated patients, BiPAP, Airvo, bariatric surgery, general surgery.
• Common drips: propofol, levophed, diltiazem, insulin, heparin.
• Med Surg unit: 23 beds, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:5; patient types include bariatric surgery, ortho, general med surg; heparin drips.
• Comfortable caring for 3-5 patients.
• EMR system: EPIC.

Required Qualifications

• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission.
• Minimum 24 months of recent/current ICU experience (required).
• Recent/current travel nursing experience (required).
• Med Surg experience strongly encouraged.
• Skills checklist specific to ICU/Intensive Care discipline (required).
• Current certifications:

  • ACLS (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
  • BLS (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
  • PALS (American Heart Association or Red Cross)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Competency)
• NIHSS certification preferred (can be obtained during onboarding).
• Professional reference or performance evaluation from charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, or equivalent within the last 24 months (preferred).
• Valid driver’s license (required).

Work Schedule & Other Details

• Shift: Days.
• Orientation start date: July 13.
• Typical hours: 36-40 hours/week; overtime billable after 40 hours.
• Overtime and holiday pay multipliers apply.
• Call back and on-call pay available.
• Charge/preceptor pay available.
