Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU
Location: Pendleton, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 (3 shifts/week, 12 hours each)
Unit: ICU (5 beds)
Job Overview
- Provide nursing care in a mixed ICU unit with patients of all ages, including occasional stable pediatric patients.
- Patient conditions include sepsis, respiratory failure, encephalopathy, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), COPD exacerbation, RSV, Influenza, and COVID-19.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2-3 for most patients; 1:1 for unstable ventilated patients.
- Responsibilities include ventilator management, titrating drips (heparin, vasopressors, Bumex, insulin, sedation/analgesia).
- RNs read telemetry strips for med-surg patients.
- Charge nurse is a unit RN with patient assignments; supervisor available 24/7.
- Respiratory therapists available 24/7; equipment includes vents, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current Oregon RN license or eligibility for a 90-day Oregon Emergency License.
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Experience & Skills
- Experience with ventilators and drip titrations required.
- Comfortable caring for all age populations, including pediatric patients.
- Ability to titrate drips independently.
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend.
- Holiday shifts are negotiable.
- If placed on low census, must be available to report within 30 minutes of call.
- Floating: RNs not fully cross-trained assist as “helping hands” and may elect to cross-train in other departments.
- Orientation: 3-6 shifts, longer if needed.
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs.
- Positive teamwork environment with favorable staffing ratios.
Additional Notes
- Hospitalist in-house.
- Critical access hospital setting.
- CNA support available during day shifts (1 CNA for the department).
Requirements / Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Oregon
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Operating Room (OR) experience
