Registered Nurse – ER Holding (Travel/Contract)
Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:45–6:45)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Provide care for patients admitted and waiting in the Emergency Department (ED) on bed availability, either in a designated area or possibly hallway.
- May occasionally float to acute care areas if no patients are boarded.
- Work every other weekend and some holidays.
- Position is Level I Emergency Department.
- Floating within scope of practice to meet facility needs is required.
- Block scheduling accommodations are possible.
- Local candidates within a 25-mile radius may be considered if needed.
- Pending licenses are not accepted.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Minimum 2 years of experience in the Emergency Department (ED), including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Experience in acute care settings
- Experience in Med Surg and Telemetry units
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during hours of service.
- Proof of E-Verify or attestation required.
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, and HHS/OIG checks required and must be updated annually or per contract renewal.
- State nursing license primary source verification and NURSYS verification required.
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam and other competency exams as applicable.
- Physical exam within the last 12 months required.
- Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen with alcohol test within 1 year of start and updated annually.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (declination form required if declined)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (QGOLD or Tspot within 3 months or 2 PPDs)
- TB questionnaire annually
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if titer low
- Hepatitis B series or positive titer (declinations accepted only under specific circumstances)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines, titer, or history of chickenpox; boosters or declination if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis A (required for ED staff)
- Seasonal flu vaccination required annually (Oct 1–Mar 31) or approved exemption with masking requirement if exempt
- Facility-specific forms including fit testing and parking forms must be completed.
- Recent photo for badge required (plain background, shoulders up, no filters).
- References: 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions.
- Employment application/resume and skills checklist (updated annually) required.
- Performance and internal evaluations required if previously employed at the facility.
