Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (4x10 hours), 6:45 AM – 5:15 PM
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work as an OR RN Circulator with extensive experience in Gynecology, General Surgery, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery (OHNS), Urology, Plastic/Breast Surgery, Pain Management, and Robotic Surgery.
- Ability to float to other facilities within the health system.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in California.
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including experience within the last year.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience circulating in Ophthalmology.
- Scrub experience in at least two surgical specialties.
- Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) certification.
Certifications & Competencies
- Must have original AHA BLS and ACLS cards available at orientation and while working.
- Pass/Fail Telemetry and Medication exams required on first day; multiple retakes allowed.
- Unit-specific competency exams and core clinical training modules with passing scores of 80% or higher, completed within one year prior to start and updated annually.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required within one year of start.
Background & Verification Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check including specific counties and nationwide databases, completed within 30 days of start and renewed annually.
- Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript required.
- Employment history verification for the last 7 years, with explanations for gaps of 30 days or more.
- Two supervisory references required from the most recent or second most recent employer.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician’s statement of fitness to work.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start; specific approved mask models required. Onsite fit testing available as last resort.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years, no declinations accepted except medical exemptions).
- Negative TB testing (two tests required: one within 1 year, one within 3 months of start) or chest X-ray if positive TB history. Annual TB questionnaire required.
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: IGG titers or 2 vaccines required.
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination accepted (declination must be signed within 1 year).
- Varicella: IGG titer or 2 vaccines required; history of disease not accepted.
- Standard 9-panel drug test (excluding THC) within 30 days of start, negative results required, re-run every 2 years.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-April).
- COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required as of current policy.
Facility & Orientation Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to or during orientation, including Cyber Security Awareness and HIPAA training.
- Pass/Fail testing on telemetry and medication knowledge on first day of orientation.
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) and Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) may be required depending on unit assignment.
- Must complete emergency contact information and other facility-specific documentation prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Candidate must have a current and valid driver’s license or government-issued photo ID matching professional license.
- Ability to work 10-hour day shifts, 4 days per week.
- Must be prepared to comply with all health system policies including background checks, immunizations, and competency testing.
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs with strong surgical circulating skills seeking a travel contract in a major California city.
