Registered Nurse – Telemetry (Travel/Contract)
Location: Stockbridge, Georgia
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 4x12 hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Hours per week: 48
- Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
- Unit Type: Overflow Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) with cardiac telemetry focus
- Bed Count: 32 beds
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
- Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
- Call: Rare; 2-hour response time if called
- Weekends: Typically every other weekend; travelers fill in gaps after permanent staff scheduling
- Holidays: Travelers expected to work major holidays if they fall within assignment period (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
- Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days per contract
- Electronic Systems: Epic (preferred), Pyxis, SBAR
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue
Clinical Responsibilities & Skills
- Manage cardiac telemetry patients including arrhythmia management and cardioversion
- Care for patients with cardiac CHF, chest pain, renal issues, pulmonary conditions (COPD, pulmonary edema), pulmonary embolism (PE), deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
- Manage cardiac drips: Amiodarone, Cardizem, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Milrinone, Nitroglycerin
- Manage diuretics: Bumex, Lasix
- Manage anticoagulants: Aggrastat, Argatroban, Heparin
- Manage insulin drips
- Care for post-surgical patients (cholecystectomy, appendectomy, chest tubes, biliary drains)
- Occasional vascular patients, post cardiac catheterization with TR bands, diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA)
- Occasional orthopedic or cerebrovascular accident (CVA) patient overflow (transferred ASAP to appropriate unit)
- Basic arrhythmia knowledge required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Georgia
- Minimum 1 year of telemetry experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Comfort managing continuous IV cardiac drips including Amiodarone, Dobutamine, and Milrinone
- Comfort managing continuous IV diuretics such as Lasix
- Comfort managing continuous IV anticoagulants including Aggrastat and Argatroban
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check completed within 30 days prior to start, including national and county criminal searches, sex offender registry, education verification
- Education verification required; diplomas or transcripts may be accepted if pending
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months; TB questionnaire required annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or documented:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Flu vaccine or signed declination (required during flu season)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC)
- References: 2 clinical references required
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months
- Verification of most recent work history required (can be pending with proof of processing)
Additional Notes
- Orientation hours vary based on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment, 19 hours for 19-week assignment)
- Locals accepted at same rate
- Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week start delay due to orientation scheduling
- Candidate clinical fit will be reviewed by clinical team before final manager decision
This position is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs with prior travel experience who are confident managing complex cardiac drips and telemetry patients in a fast-paced IMCU setting.
