Registered Nurse (RN) - ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed

Location: Turtle Lake, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 1845-0715)
Hours per Week: 36

Unit and Patient Population

• Department: ER / MedSurg / Swing Bed Unit
• Facility Type: Critical Access, Rural Location
• Number of Beds: 25
• Patient Types: Dementia, dependent older adults, diabetes, rehab/restorative care post-acute illness, IV medication, fluid and blood administration, COVID, wounds, initial trauma care in ER, exacerbation of chronic illnesses, geriatric population, general post-surgery rehab
• Common Diagnoses: Dementia, stroke, chronic illness exacerbations, trauma, wounds

Staffing and Ratios

• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:8 (team nursing model)
• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift, takes team assignments (not individual)
• Nurse Aides/CNAs: Present on each shift
• Floating: ER and MedSurg support required

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs must titrate drips including electrolytes, hypertensive medications, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
• RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips (no Telehealth)
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Patient managed CPAP only; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage vents or other RT equipment
• No clinical involvement beyond nursing scope specified

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Dakota
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with geriatric patients
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS, TNCC

Orientation and Scheduling

• Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts
• Scheduling: Team scheduling with block scheduling possible upon request
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Alternating or as scheduled, usually every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement

• EMR System: EPIC
• Scrubs: Provided, no specific color required
• Radius Rule: Candidates must be located within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related facilities within the health system
• Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
