Ultrasound Technician Job Opportunity
Location: Williston, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Role focused on outpatient and add-on ultrasound exams, primarily non-echo and vascular studies.
- No clinical involvement beyond sonography duties.
- Occasional ultrasound in the OR may be required (rare cases).
- No floating to other departments; may assist with patient transfers when needed.
- Work schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM, with occasional weekend call.
- Call required only when other travelers are simultaneously out of town; 20-minute response time expected.
- Shift types: Day and Evening shifts available.
- Hours: Approximately 36 hours per week, typically 12-hour shifts possible (4x10hr shifts option for long weekends with coverage coordination).
- Scrubs: Gray scrubs required but not provided.
Imaging & Equipment
- Types of studies performed:
- OB limited, 2nd and 3rd trimester, follow-up, transvaginal, multiple fetuses
- Gynecological and pelvic non-obstetric
- Abdomen (full and limited)
- Breast (full and limited), soft tissue, thyroid, scrotum and contents/duplex
- Venous doppler (extremity), carotid, retroperitoneal compression
- Thoracic, para, ultrasound-guided breast biopsy, fine needle aspiration (FNA)
- Fetal biophysical profile (BPP) without non-stress test (NST)
- Equipment used: Philips Epiq 5, Epiq Elite, Mindray (backup)
- EMR/PACS systems: McKesson, CRTIS, Meditech
- No Radiology Supervisor or Lead Tech on shift; nursing supervisor available in-house
- Radiologist coverage via teleradiology 24/7
- No Registered Radiology Assistants (RRAs) on site
- No IV starts required
Required Qualifications
- Must hold a current North Dakota state license for Ultrasound Tech.
- Certifications required: BLS and RDMS.
- Preferred certifications: RDMS (OB/GYN), RDMS (Abdomen), RVT.
- Minimum 2 years of ultrasound experience, comfortable with non-echo and vascular studies.
- Ability to provide compassionate care, attention to detail, quality imaging, and proficiency with computer technology.
- Prior travel experience is not required.
Orientation & Training
- One week of unit/department-specific orientation provided; may be extended if needed.
Additional Information
- Average workload: 6-8 scans/studies per day, with option for add-ons.
- Department currently has one echo room and one general ultrasound room; expanding to two general ultrasound rooms plus echo room soon. Echo exams handled by dedicated sonographer.
- Outpatient scheduling closed on weekday holidays; traveler may choose to work covering ER/OB ultrasounds or take the day off.
- Position requires adherence to a 50-mile radius rule and no recent employment (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with certain affiliated healthcare systems within the past 12 months.
- Return to office (RTO) required upfront; no additional RTO approvals after submission.
