Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Boone, North Carolina
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

• Role: IMCU Float Pool RN with float to MedSurg as needed
• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7pm - 7am)
• Weekend Requirement: Up to 2 weekends per month
• Holidays: Required coverage
• Patient Ratio: 5:1 with goal of 4:1; average daily census 20-24 patients in a 24-bed unit
• Patient Population: Primarily adults; occasional pediatric patients (comfort with peds patients required)
• EMR System: EPIC (recent experience/proficiency required)
• Uniform: Scrubs must be all navy or all white

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year
• Minimum 2 years of travel nursing experience
• Telemetry nursing experience
• Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical record system

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License) required for address verification; candidates residing within 40 miles of the facility are not eligible
• Background Check: 7-year criminal history check within one year of start, updated annually; must cover all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
• E-Verify or attestation proof required
• NURSYS verification required for RN license
• Drug Screen: 10-panel including marijuana, completed within 90 days prior to start and updated annually
• Physical Exam: Initial and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands of position
• Immunizations & Titers (must be current or have approved exemptions):

  • Influenza vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (required annually during flu season)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Titer or 2 vaccines within 5 years or approved exemption
  • Varicella: Titer or 2 vaccines within 5 years; Zoster vaccine not accepted
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination within 5 years
• Facility-specific orientation and competency exams required, including self-study and post-tests
• Badge photo: Passport-style photo required before start, must meet specific facility standards

• Blocked scheduling may be considered if requested upfront but is not guaranteed
• Candidates must submit a cover sheet and current NURSYS report with their profile
• Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
• Performance evaluations required if previously worked with the client for over 1 year
• Internal evaluations required if worked over 2 years with the client

This position is ideal for experienced travel RNs with strong telemetry skills, comfortable with float assignments and night shifts, and who meet all licensure, certification, and compliance requirements.
