ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Rochester, NY
Position Details
- Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
- Location: Rochester, New York
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Patient Care Information
- Staffing Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients on all shifts
- Float Requirement: Yes, float to Medical-Surgical (MS) unit
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend
- Local Candidates: Not accepted; must live more than 75 miles away
- Patient Diagnoses: Sepsis, Post Cardiac Arrest, ARDS
- Special Procedures/Skills Required:
- Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement
- Care of ventilated patients including ventilator management, BiPAP/CPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
- Management of arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines
- Blood product administration
- Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias and 12-lead EKG/ECG
- IV insulin protocols
- Management of chronic/acute renal failure including CVVHD/CRRT
- Use of special equipment: ventilators, balloon pumps, EKOS, Level I Rapid Infuser, EPOC
- Emergency medication administration and titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Stroke management and hypothermia protocol (Arctic Sun)
- Infection prevention and isolation precautions including PPE
- Suctioning (ETT, NT)
- Continuous IV paralytics, neuromuscular blockade, and sedation
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Experience with Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency
Health & Compliance Requirements
- Physical Exam: Within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Fit Mask: Required within 1 year of start; acceptable masks include Halyard duckbill 1870+1860 Regular or 1860 Small; PAPR accepted if fit test failed
- TB Testing: Negative Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD within 1 year; if positive, negative chest X-ray within 10 years and annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (age exemption if born before 1957)
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required (age exemption if born before 1957)
- Rubella: Positive titer or 1 MMR/Rubella vaccine required (age exemption if born before 1957)
- Hepatitis B: Positive surface antibody titer, completed series, or declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or documented history required
- Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Drug Testing: Required within 30 days of start; includes amphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy, fentanyl, heroin, opiates
- Eye Exam: Snellen exam within 1 year of start (not annual)
- COVID-19: Vaccination copy preferred but not required
Background & Documentation Requirements
- Background Check: 7-year criminal background check including felony checks, SSN trace, national criminal, sex offender, education verification, eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Additional Checks: EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 3 months of start and run monthly
- Education Verification: Required from primary source; foreign equivalency evaluation required if education obtained internationally
- Employment Verification: At least 2 past employments verified (job-related)
- References: Two references within 3 years required (for Aya candidates)
- Photo: Passport-style photo with solid background required for badge
- Facility-Specific Documents: Various attestations and forms to be completed prior to start
Additional Information
- Scrub Colors: Navy or White
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Keep RTO close to 1 week
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity ICU setting with complex patient care needs and advanced equipment. Candidates must be competent in critical care nursing skills and able to work night shifts with a 1:2 staffing ratio.
