Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 48 hours per week
Unit: 6 East – Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Oncology, and Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
Number of Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adult patients with oncology and trauma diagnoses
Job Details
- Patient ratios:
- PCU: 1 RN to 4 patients
- Med/Surg: 1 RN to 5 patients (nights 1:5-6)
- Common patient diagnoses: Oncology and trauma
- Common drips/medications: Chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix, insulin (occasionally titrated), and cardizem
- Float assignments: To Med/Surg and PCU units at the same level of care
- Orientation: 2 days
- Nursing assistant support and charge nurse available
- Additional unit support: PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician
- EMR system: EPIC
- Specialty equipment: Ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000), ICP monitoring (training provided), Alaris IV pumps, Lyko lifts and other lift equipment
- Scrubs: Navy blue
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, self-scheduling available
- Patient care focus: Hourly rounding and culturally sensitive care for diverse populations
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license
- Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU and/or oncology preferred
- BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association) required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Oncology certification preferred but not required
- Must pass a skills exam during orientation (90% required to pass)
- Valid driver’s license required at submission (used to verify candidate is outside a 50-mile radius)
- No current or prior employment (full-time, part-time, or PRN) with certain affiliated health systems within 50 miles
- Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas
Additional Information
- First-time travel nurses are welcome; prior travel experience is not required
- Charge nurse experience requires minimum 1 year of relevant experience
- Return to work (RTO) must be within 7 days or less from contract start; no extensions allowed
- Shift times include: 7a-7p, 7a-3p, 3p-7p, 7p-11p, 11p-7a, 7p-7a (nights focus)
- Emphasis on teamwork, positive attitude, and compassionate patient care
