Description

Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Float Nurse

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

  • Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
  • Unit: Medical-Surgical (MS) and MS Telemetry (MS/Tele) units
  • Floating required across all MS and MS/Tele units within the hospital, including possible float to a nearby sister campus (~3 miles away)
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: Approximately 1:5-6
  • Electronic Medical Record system: Epic (required)
  • Other systems: Pyxis, SBAR
  • Scrub color: Navy Blue
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (about 6 weekends in a 13-week contract)
  • Call: None
  • Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days, with blackout dates during Spring Break (April 4th-12th)
  • Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, must work it; if 2, must work both; if 3, must work 2 of them
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Experience with Epic Electronic Medical Record system

Additional Information

  • Floating to multiple units is mandatory
  • Compliance with all orientation and credentialing requirements is critical; failure to comply on time may delay start by 2 weeks due to bi-weekly orientation scheduling
  • Locals accepted at same rate
  • No call responsibilities
  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of medical-surgical experience, comfortable floating across multiple units including telemetry, and proficient with Epic EMR. The role requires flexibility, adherence to strict compliance timelines, and readiness to work some weekends and holidays.
