Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse
Location: Dothan, Alabama
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: Day shift, 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (ER)
- Required Certifications:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) preferred but not required
- License: Current Alabama RN license or compact license required
- Location Requirement: Candidate must live at least 90 miles from the facility
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alabama
- Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Bring a valid Driver’s License/State ID on the first day; name must exactly match RN license
- Social Security Card or last four digits of SSN must be provided
- Background checks including:
- 7-year criminal history check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Sex offender registry
- Education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form and results (time-sensitive, must be completed and signed prior to orientation)
- Facility-specific modules must be completed by the Friday prior to start (sent directly to candidate)
- Photo for badge (passport-style, no nose rings) must be submitted within 72 hours of signing contract
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start (specific approved mask models only)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire required for all candidates
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (instant/rapid tests not accepted), updated annually
- Seasonal flu vaccination required for placements starting on or after September 15; no declinations accepted except medical or religious exemptions on facility form (mask required if exempt)
- COVID-19 vaccination is voluntary
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Core exams I-III (preferred from Prophecy; RN network Orientation Module not accepted)
- HIPAA attestation required
References and Employment History
- Proof of 2 clinical references within the last 12 months (up to 18 months if necessary)
- Complete employment application/resume required
- Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually
Additional Notes
- Candidate must notify if name changes on license to ensure exact match with ID and Social Security documentation
- Facility will provide NIH Stroke Certification training after candidate is cleared to start
- Modules and additional specialty-specific trainings may be assigned (e.g., Apex Hemispheres Level 3 for ER)
- Religious and medical vaccination exemptions require facility-specific forms and review
This position is ideal for experienced ER Registered Nurses who meet the licensing and certification requirements and are comfortable working 12-hour day shifts on a travel contract basis.
