Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse
Location: Dothan, Alabama
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift Details
- Day shift: 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
- Block scheduling may be accommodated
- Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 6-7 patients
Unit Description
- Orthopedic unit with some MS/Telemetry overflow
- Cardiac drips required at times (medications include cardizem, tridil, amiodarone)
- Must be proficient in managing drips
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Alabama
- Minimum 1 year of Med Surg experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Proficient in Cardizem (diltiazem), Tridil, and Amiodarone drips
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Must live at least 90 miles from the facility (no local candidates accepted)
- Bring a valid Driver’s License matching the name on RN license
- Social Security Card required
- Background check: 7-year criminal history, sex offender, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated annually
- Drug testing: 10-panel test within 90 days of start, updated annually (instant/rapid tests not accepted)
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
- Fit mask test within 12 months prior to start (specific approved mask models only)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Immunizations or titers required for: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (vaccination, titer, or declination accepted)
- Flu vaccination required for placements starting on or after September 15; no declinations accepted (medical/religious exemptions require facility form and mask-wearing)
- COVID vaccination is voluntary
- Completion of facility-specific modules prior to orientation (deadline: Friday before start week)
- Photo for badge required within 72 hours of signing (passport-style, no nose rings)
- Shirley’s Law APS Clearance Form and results required prior to orientation (time sensitive)
- Proof of 2 clinical references within last 12 months (may extend to 18 months if necessary)
- Completion of skills checklist annually
Additional Notes
- Scrubs color: Navy Blue
- Previous permanent staff at this facility are ineligible for travel assignments for 10 years
- Core competency exams and medication/pharmacology competency exams required
- HIPAA attestation and facility orientation safety manual acknowledgement required
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of experience, comfortable with cardiac drips, and interested in a travel contract in an orthopedic/medical-surgical setting with telemetry overflow.
