Registered Nurse (RN) – Emergency Room (ER) (Nights)
Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse for night shifts. The unit has 34 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 4:1. Patient population is mixed acuity, including drips and titrations. Float opportunities available to a freestanding ED campus.
Required Qualifications
Experience:
- Minimum 24 months of Emergency Room nursing experience
- Minimum 24 months of current Medical-Surgical nursing experience (must be documented in work history/resume)
- Must have completed a travel nursing contract within the previous 18 months (prior travel experience required)
Licensure:
- Active Registered Nurse license in Iowa or multistate compact license (must be verifiable via Nursys at time of submission)
Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – American Heart Association or American Red Cross (active)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – American Heart Association (active)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – American Heart Association (active)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Competency Certificate) – required, can be obtained during onboarding
- NIH Stroke Scale certification – required, can be obtained during onboarding
- De-escalation certificates preferred: CPI, MOAB, MAB, SAMA (non-certified clinicians may onboard without these but must obtain during onboarding)
Other Requirements:
- Valid driver’s license
- Skills checklist specific to Medical-Surgical discipline (required)
- Professional reference from a charge nurse, supervisor, nurse manager, director, or equivalent within the last 24 months (preferred)
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation dates available: June 15 and June 22
- Work 36-40 hours per week; overtime billable after 40 hours
- Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays unless the unit is closed (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day)
Work Environment & Additional Info
- EMR system: EPIC (experience required)
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 4:1
- Unit colors for scrubs: Black, Navy Blue, Caribbean Blue (solids)
- Float opportunity to Marion ED (freestanding campus)
- Call back and on-call pay available (details not included here)

- Local radius rule: 50 miles
- Employee separation policy applies to certain past employees (details withheld)
- Prior travel experience is mandatory for this role.
This position is ideal for Emergency Room RNs with strong medical-surgical skills, current certifications, and recent travel nursing experience looking for a temporary night shift assignment.
