Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg/Telemetry (Nights)

Location: Waterloo, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work primarily on a telemetry monitoring unit with a 1:5-6 nurse-to-patient ratio and 25 beds.
• Manage drips and titrates including heparin, insulin, diuretic infusions, amiodarone, diltiazem, and 3% saline infusion.
• Float across medical-surgical units including post-op, and possibly to Behavioral Health, Emergency Department, and ICU as needed.
• Must be able to confidently read EKG/ECG, including rhythm strips and dysrhythmia interpretation.
• Use EPIC electronic medical record system.
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 upcoming summer holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day) unless the unit is closed.
• Orientation dates available; priority given to earliest date.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 24 months of recent experience in Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, or combined Med/Tele nursing.
• Experience with post-op surgical care including EGD, colonoscopy, cardiac catheterization, pacemaker care, and minor surgeries.
• Prior travel nursing experience required; must have completed at least one travel assignment within the past 15 months (no first-time travelers).
• Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of application.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) ACLS certification.
• Current AHA or ARC BLS certification.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Professional references or performance evaluations from the past 24 months preferred.
• Skills checklist specific to Med Surg, Tele, or Med/Tele discipline required.

Additional Information

• Orientation is 16 hours.
• Overtime and holiday pay multipliers apply (details not included).
• Call back and on-call pay available (details not included).
• Must comply with employee separation policy restricting travel assignments within the same market if previously employed in certain capacities.
• Candidates must be located at least 50 miles away (radius rule).
• No requests off for July 4th holiday allowed.
