Registered Nurse (RN) – ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed
Location: Turtle Lake, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts: 1845-0715)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Department: ER / MedSurg / Swing Bed Unit
- Trauma Level: Critical Access (Rural Location)
- Number of Beds: 25
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:8 (team nursing model)
- Patient Population: Dementia, dependent older adults, diabetes, rehab/restorative care post-acute illness, COVID, wounds, trauma initial care, exacerbation of chronic illnesses, geriatric patients, general post-surgery rehab
- Common Procedures: IV medication, fluid and blood administration, blood transfusions
- Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Patient-managed CPAP only (RNs troubleshoot but do not manage other RT equipment)
- Telemetry: RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips themselves
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift, takes team assignments (not individual)
- Support Staff: Nurse Aides/CNAs present on each shift
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
- Experience with dementia care, stroke, skin care, and geriatric patient care
- Ability to titrate drips including electrolytes, hypertensive medications, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
- EMR system used: EPIC
- No prior travel experience required
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Alternating or as scheduled (usually every other holiday)
- Scheduling: Team scheduling with possible block scheduling upon request
- Floating: Required to float between ER and MedSurg support
- Orientation: 3 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
- Dress Code: Scrubs provided, no specific color required
- No call or standby requirement
Additional Notes
- No clinical involvement outside of nursing scope
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare facilities within the system
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
