Registered Nurse (RN) – ER/MedSurg/Swing Bed

Location: Turtle Lake, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts: 1845-0715)
Hours per Week: 36

Unit Overview

• Department: ER / MedSurg / Swing Bed Unit
• Trauma Level: Critical Access (Rural Location)
• Number of Beds: 25
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:8 (team nursing model)
• Patient Population: Dementia, dependent older adults, diabetes, rehab/restorative care post-acute illness, COVID, wounds, trauma initial care, exacerbation of chronic illnesses, geriatric patients, general post-surgery rehab
• Common Procedures: IV medication, fluid and blood administration, blood transfusions
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: Patient-managed CPAP only (RNs troubleshoot but do not manage other RT equipment)
• Telemetry: RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips themselves
• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift, takes team assignments (not individual)
• Support Staff: Nurse Aides/CNAs present on each shift

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
• Certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, TNCC
• Experience with dementia care, stroke, skin care, and geriatric patient care
• Ability to titrate drips including electrolytes, hypertensive medications, IV antibiotics, and blood transfusions
• EMR system used: EPIC
• No prior travel experience required

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Alternating or as scheduled (usually every other holiday)
• Scheduling: Team scheduling with possible block scheduling upon request
• Floating: Required to float between ER and MedSurg support
• Orientation: 3 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
• Dress Code: Scrubs provided, no specific color required
• No call or standby requirement

Additional Notes

• No clinical involvement outside of nursing scope
• Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related healthcare facilities within the system
• Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
