Description
Registered Nurse (PCU)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days (6:30 AM – 7:00 PM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Unit & Patient Population
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Beds: 28
- Patient Types: Adults, mixed medical/surgical, cardiac, and stroke patients, often admitted through the ER
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Nurse Aide/Patient Care Tech Ratio: 1:14
- Charge Nurse present on each shift and takes patient assignments
- High patient flow with frequent admissions, transfers, and discharges
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., heparin, octreotide, insulin, maintenance IV meds)
- Must be able to read and interpret telemetry/monitoring data
- Floating required to Med/Surg, ICU, and ED depending on skills and patient care needs
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation: 1 week classroom + 2 twelve-hour shifts on unit
- Scheduling: 6-week rotation, managed by unit schedulers
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Rotates with permanent staff
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Current RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Valid driver’s license required at submission
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided)
- Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated healthcare systems
- Artificial nails are prohibited; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
Unit Equipment & Support
- Specialty equipment includes code carts, LUCAS machines, hoyer lifts, and sit-to-stand devices
- Telemetry/monitor techs available on unit
- Unit secretary available 2-3 days/week and stocking clerk 3 days/week
- Scrub color: Navy blue
