Description

Registered Nurse – PCU (Progressive Care Unit)

Location: Cartersville, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 9 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Schedule: Every other weekend
  • Call: None
  • Floating: Within facility and scope of practice as needed
  • Minimum Experience: 1 year in specialty; first-time travelers accepted
  • Holidays: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler expected to work it; if 2 holidays, work both; if 3 holidays, work 2 of them
  • Orientation: Non-billable orientation hours proportional to contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8 weeks)
  • Compliance: Full compliance required to start on time; delays may push start by 2 weeks due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Locals: Accepted at same rate

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Compliance and Screening Requirements

Background Checks

  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including:
    • County and national criminal searches
    • Sex offender registry
    • Education verification of related degree
  • Background must be complete prior to start; no pending background checks allowed for this facility

Health and Immunizations

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start (required by agency, not client)
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months; if previously positive, must provide proof of positive test and negative chest x-ray within 6 months
  • TB questionnaire required annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity required for:
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
    • Tdap (Tdap highly recommended but not required)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)

Drug Testing

  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start, including:
    Amphetamines, Methamphetamines, Benzodiazepines, Barbiturates, Cocaine, Opiates, Methadone, Phencyclidine, Propoxyphene, THC (Marijuana)
  • Instant drug screen acceptable
  • Candidates cannot start with results pending

Competency Exams (Agency Required)

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required for PCU) with up to 3 attempts allowed; failure on third attempt results in cancellation
  • Color blind testing required; alternative assessment available for blood collection tasks if needed

Additional Requirements

  • Review and sign facility Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start
  • Two clinical references required by agency (not client)
  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months
  • Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof of processing

Notes

  • Manager reviews candidate profile within 48 hours of confirmation to ensure fit for unit/schedule/expertise
  • Maximum 7-day response time for offer acceptance (RTO)
  • If assignment includes major holidays, traveler is expected to work as outlined above
  • Non-billable orientation hours scale with contract length
  • Full compliance with all requirements is mandatory to avoid start delays
