Description

Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Shift: Night, 4 shifts per week, 12 hours each (48 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Patient ratio approximately 1:12 with team nursing support (including PCC, LPN, RN, and Med Nurse assistance)
  • On-call and weekend shifts required as needed
  • No block scheduling except possible weekend blocks (to be discussed during interview)
  • Local candidates within 100-mile radius not accepted (strict rule)
  • First-time travel nurses not accepted; prior travel experience required
  • Start date: ASAP

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
  • Experience working with Level I or Level II Trauma patients
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • NIH Stroke Certification required and must be renewed annually (except for pediatric specialty)

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending results accepted)
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test for 3M N-95 masks within 1 year (must pass without limitations)
  • Immunizations required:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive antibody titer with boosters if titers are low
    • Varicella: Proof of 2 vaccines or positive antibody titer with boosters if titers are low
    • Hepatitis B: Proof of 3-shot series, positive titer, or signed declination
  • TB screening: True 2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot within 1 year; if positive, negative chest X-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30); exemptions require mask-wearing in patient areas and may delay start date

Background and Documentation

  • Background check within 60 days including statewide, county, federal, and education verification (international checks not required)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
  • Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search required
  • Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu)
  • Two recent professional references required
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluation required annually or after one year with agency
  • Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (passport-style, no hats, no glasses glare, no filters, taken within last 6 months)

Facility-Specific Notes

  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
  • Business casual with white lab coat for RN Case Managers
  • Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start
  • EPIC questionnaire required for RNs; EPIC experience may allow testing out of training
  • Onsite fit test and questionnaire must be completed prior to start date

Additional Information

  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with application; no changes after offer
  • Candidates may only be submitted for one job ID/facility to avoid removal
  • Weekend blocks may be considered but must be discussed during interview

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with trauma experience who have prior travel assignments and are ready for a night shift contract in a large hospital setting.
