Medical Surgical Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Memphis, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (4 shifts of 12 hours each, 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM)
Hours per Week: 48


Job Overview

  • Work in a Level I Trauma Center with short-term acute care patients.
  • Team nursing ratios (discuss specifics with manager during interview).
  • On-call and weekend shifts required as needed (no weekend block scheduling, but weekend block may be considered).
  • First-time travel nurses not accepted.
  • Local candidates within 100-mile radius not accepted (strict rule).
  • Start date: ASAP.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year.
  • One completed travel nursing assignment.
  • Experience working with Level I Trauma patients.
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA or ARC only, required for Medical Surgical/Telemetry units.
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification: Required and must be renewed annually (except for pediatric units).

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 60 days of start, including statewide, county, federal, and education verification.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter.
  • Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search required.
  • Two recent professional references required.
  • Skills checklist and internal evaluation required if employed with agency for one year or more.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet job demands.
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, Q-Gold, or T-spot) within 1 year; if positive, clear chest X-ray within 2 years plus annual TB questionnaire.
  • Proof of immunity or vaccination for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination.
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Apr 30). Exemptions require mask-wearing in patient areas and may delay start date.
  • Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending compliance allowed).
  • Fit test for 3M N-95 masks within 1 year of start (must pass without limitations).

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge must meet strict guidelines (passport-style, no hats/headphones, no glasses glare, taken within last 6 months).
  • Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed.
  • Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start.
  • EPIC questionnaire required for RNs; EPIC experience may allow testing out of training.
  • Onsite fit test and questionnaire must be completed prior to start date.

Notes

  • All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with application; changes after offer require manager approval.
  • Candidates must sign job description form within one year of start.
  • Large hospital and trauma center experience is essential for success in this role.

This position is ideal for experienced travel Registered Nurses with trauma and large hospital backgrounds seeking a 13-week contract in a Level I Trauma Center with day shifts and team nursing.
