Registered Nurse – Cardiac Telemetry (7NNA)

Location: Phoenix, Arizona
Unit: Cardiac Telemetry (7NNA)
Beds: 24
Shift: Days (12-hour shifts, 7am–7pm)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (minimum)


Job Overview

  • Work on a cardiac telemetry stepdown unit with a 1:3-4 nurse-to-patient ratio depending on acuity.
  • Patient population includes cardiac stepdown, lung transplant, chronic pulmonary (CP), myocardial infarction (MI), pre-transplant, esophagectomy, emergency room overflow, and detox patients.
  • No transplant patients assigned to travelers.
  • Use Philips telemetry monitors; RNs must interpret EKGs.
  • Ventilator support includes CPAP and high flow.
  • Support teams available: IV SWAT RN for difficult sticks, respiratory therapy 24/7, pharmacy 24/7 with pharmacist on floor during day shifts.
  • Float assignments include other telemetry units (T5, T6, Neuro Tele).
  • Floor-specific orientation lasts 3 days.
  • Weekend requirement: 3 out of 4 weekend shifts per 4-week period.
  • Holiday shifts are scheduled based on unit coverage.
  • Scrub color: Navy.
  • Charge nurse role present; nurses do not take patients when census is high.
  • Nurse aides (PCTs) available, 2 on days and nights.

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license valid in Arizona.
  • Minimum 2 years of core nursing experience in cardiac telemetry or related specialty.
  • Level 1 trauma experience required.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications (American Heart Association).
  • Cerner EMR experience required.
  • Must pass Prophecy Dysrhythmia Exam 24-48 hours prior to position acceptance (maximum 2 attempts). Failure results in 6-month disqualification within the region.
  • Must pass a Day 1 pass/fail exam during orientation.
  • Competency in Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes required; SIMs Lab completion mandatory (pass/fail).
  • Must be competent in sterile field maintenance.
  • Natural hair color only; no facial piercings allowed.
  • Male candidates must be clean-shaven for fit testing.
  • Must have own vehicle if part of a travel team.
  • Cannot hold concurrent contracts with other employers.
  • Must have been off permanent staff at this health system for at least 12 months to qualify for travel assignment.

Additional Information

  • Facility is a teaching hospital; travelers may have nursing students.
  • Parking assigned with shuttle service; night shift parking in garage.
  • 50-mile radius rule applies; local rates not applicable.
  • Weekly orientations held on Mondays (except holidays).
  • No contract shorter than 13 weeks will be considered.
  • Candidates must submit complete onboarding documentation by Wednesday 1pm CST before start date; incomplete files will delay start.
  • SIMs Lab also includes training on lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational only).
  • No facial piercings and only natural hair colors allowed.
  • Travelers must adhere to strict professional appearance and conduct standards.
