Registered Nurse Operating Room
Location: Kyle, Texas
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 06:45 AM – 3:00 PM, Monday to Friday with on-call rotation on weekdays, weekends, and holidays
Job Summary
- Provide professional nursing care in the operative setting for patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures.
- Perform circulating nurse functions: monitor, record, and communicate patient condition; manage nursing care before, during, and after surgery.
- Assist the operating physician with surgical tasks such as hemostasis, suturing, wound exposure, and patient positioning.
- Prepare operating rooms, surgical instruments, and equipment for use.
- Work requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and ability to work independently in a stressful environment.
- Follow Standard Precautions and use personal protective equipment as required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as an Operating Room (OR) Circulating Nurse.
- OR Circulating Nurse experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Onboarding & Compliance Requirements
Professional Documentation (Required for Submission)
- Current resume/profile.
- Two professional references completed prior to first assignment.
- Current, unexpired Driver’s License or State ID matching address on file.
- Nursys license verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Current license and primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
Required Onboarding Documents & Testing (Must be completed prior to or at start)
- Signed assignment agreement.
- Ascension Specialty Exam (minimum 80% passing score; updated every 3 years).
- Ascension Core Competencies (HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA topics; minimum 80% passing score; updated every 3 years).
- Ascension Color Vision test (updated every 3 years).
- Ascension Nursing Contract Worker Onboarding (completed onsite).
- Ascension Nova StatStrip pre-hire modules.
- Cerner Test-Out and Training Checklist with signed attestation.
- Ascension Skills Checklist (clinical specialty; updated annually).
- Health Statement or physical exam prior to first assignment, updated annually.
- Ascension 12 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days prior to start, updated annually.
- Criminal Background Check including Social Security Trace, OIG Search, National Sex Offender, and others within 90 days of start; updated annually or after break in service >90 days.
- EPLS (Excluded Parties List System) check within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service >90 days.
- Education verification relevant to clinical work within 90 days of start; rerun if break in service >90 days.
- Employment verification for past 7 years; updated annually or after break in service >90 days.
- Confirmation of assignment documentation upon initial assignment and each extension.
Immunizations & Health Requirements
- MMR: Documented proof of two vaccines or positive IGG titer; no declinations accepted. If negative, two doses four weeks apart required.
- Varicella: Documented proof of two vaccines, serological immunity, or verified history; no declinations accepted. If negative, two doses four weeks apart required.
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years; no declinations accepted.
- Hepatitis B: Documentation of vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Influenza vaccine: Optional; flu season October 1 through March 31. Exemptions accepted with mask requirement.
- Tuberculosis screening: 2-step PPD or IGRA within required timeframes; if positive, negative chest X-ray within one year and annual TB questionnaire required.
- Fit Test for respiratory protection required; preferred prior to start, can be completed onsite.
Additional Information
- On-call rotation includes weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment with minimal supervision.
- Personal protective equipment use is mandatory following standard precautions.
