Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Details
- Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
- Unit: General Medical-Surgical
- Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement:
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
- If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
- If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
- Major Holidays Include: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday (count as one), Christmas Eve/Christmas Day (count as one), New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day (count as one)
- Electronic Systems Used: Epic, Pyxis, SBAR
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue
- Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days
- Compliance: Full compliance required to start on time; delays result in 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Locals accepted at same rate
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
- Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
Orientation & Competency Requirements
- Non-billable orientation hours vary by contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment, 10 hours for 10-week assignment)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required by staffing agency)
- Competency Exam (required by staffing agency)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, Medical-Surgical Telemetry, Intermediate Care Unit, ER, Cardiac Tele/Step-down, ICU, PCU)
- Up to 3 attempts allowed; failure on third attempt results in cancellation
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical Exam: Required within 12 months prior to start
- Immunizations/Vaccinations:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended but not required)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters may be pending if not yet eligible
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters may be pending if not yet eligible
- Hepatitis B: Surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine or Declination required (strongly encouraged during flu season Nov 1 – Mar 31)
- Tuberculosis Screening:
- Negative PPD, QGold, or TSpot within 12 months of start (not required annually)
- If past positive, must provide proof of positive test, negative chest x-ray within 6 months, and TB questionnaire
- TB Questionnaire required annually regardless of test results
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable; cannot start with results pending
- Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start; includes criminal, sex offender, education verification, and other checks; cannot start with background pending
- Education Verification: Verification of related degree required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
- References: Two clinical references required by staffing agency
- Skills Checklist: Must be updated within 12 months
- Work History Verification: Verification of most recent employer required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process (due within 30 days post start)
Additional Facility Requirements
- Candidate must review and sign Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start

- Floating assignments are within the facility and scope of practice only

This position offers an opportunity to work night shifts on a medical-surgical unit caring for adult to geriatric patients with a supportive team and established electronic systems. Orientation and competency testing are required to ensure readiness.
