ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - 2E SICU

Location: Marshfield, Wisconsin
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour shifts, rotating day (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM) and night (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36

Unit Overview

• 16 beds plus 2 procedural beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • 1:2 standard ICU patients
  • 1:1 for higher acuity patients (e.g., CRRT, immediate post-op heart patients, massive transfusion protocol, organ procurement)
  • 1:3 for med-surg/floor status patients
• Patient population includes cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA), trauma (level 2 trauma center), NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, orthopedic surgery, ENT surgery, and other surgical ICU patients
• Intensivist and respiratory therapist coverage 24/7
• Respiratory equipment includes ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, Vapotherm, etc.
• RNs monitor their own telemetry strips using GE monitors; no telemetry techs on unit
• Charge nurse present every shift, usually does not take patient assignments unless census requires
• Nursing assistants available during day shift (one per unit); typically no NA at night

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license in Wisconsin
• ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certifications required
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred
• Experience with high acuity ICU patients and relevant patient populations required
• Experience with CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO is preferred but not required
• Ability to titrate drips including epinephrine, norepinephrine, propofol, precedex, vasopressin, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neosynephrine, milrinone
• Must be able to care for immediate postoperative heart patients (POD 1) who require 1:1 nursing care by specially trained nurses
• Higher years of ICU RN experience preferred (not explicitly stated, but implied by acuity and skills required)

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• Every other weekend and every other holiday required (more if willing/able)
• Floating required: able to float to Medical ICU or serve as patient observer within hospital if not needed in SICU or MICU
• Call or standby only during scheduled shift if census is low
• Staff self-schedule; agency nurses scheduled to meet unit needs and approved time off requests
• Clean and professional dress code; no specific scrub color required

Orientation & Onboarding

• One day system onboarding and computer-based training (CBT)
• Two orientation shifts on unit with skills checklist completion required

Additional Notes

• Clinicians who have previously worked at this facility must have a minimum 6-month gap before reapplying
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
