Registered Nurse - Step Down Unit (Progressive Care/Med/Tele)
Location: Anderson, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: Day Shift (07:00 - 19:30)
Job Summary
Provide specialized nursing care to medically complex patients requiring telemetry and frequent monitoring in a Step-Down/Progressive Care Unit. Deliver safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team. Manage complex patient conditions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care for patients needing telemetry, frequent monitoring, and specialized interventions.
- Perform comprehensive assessments (respiratory, cardiovascular, neurological, hemodynamic).
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, vital signs, and lab results; notify providers of changes.
- Administer medications safely, including IV medications per orders and policy.
- Manage care for patients with telemetry monitoring, IV drips (cardiac, vasoactive, insulin infusions), central/PICC lines, oxygen therapy, and CPAP/BiPAP as appropriate.
- Implement and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, case management, and other disciplines.
- Educate patients and families on diagnosis, treatment, medications, and discharge instructions.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the EMR.
- Recognize early signs of patient deterioration and escalate care or activate rapid response as needed.
- Adhere to infection prevention, fall precautions, and patient safety standards.
- May float to other medical/surgical units as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification or competency
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
- Must complete all required exams and certifications prior to start.
- Floating to other med/surg units may be required.
- Strong critical thinking and clinical judgment skills are essential.
- Ability to manage complex patient conditions in a fast-paced environment is necessary.
