Emergency Room Registered Nurse (RN) - Nights
Location: Anderson, Indiana
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM
Job Summary
Provide direct and indirect patient care in a fast-paced, 29-bed Emergency Department. Manage emergent and non-emergent medical conditions through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure safe, timely, and compassionate care.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and triage per department protocols.
- Initiate and manage emergency nursing interventions for critically ill and injured patients.
- Administer medications, treatments, and IV therapies safely and accurately.
- Monitor patient condition and respond to clinical status changes.
- Assist with emergency procedures, trauma resuscitations, and cardiac emergencies.
- Utilize critical thinking and clinical judgment in high-acuity situations.
- Maintain accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation.
- Educate patients and families on treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care.
- Collaborate effectively with physicians, EMS personnel, respiratory therapy, laboratory, radiology, and ancillary staff.
- Adhere to hospital policies, regulatory standards, and infection prevention guidelines.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental education activities.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum of 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience, with recent ED experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of emergency nursing experience.
- Previous experience in a high-volume Emergency Department.
- Strong communication, prioritization, and critical thinking skills.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, high-acuity 29-bed Emergency Department serving patients of all ages.
- Requires rapid decision-making and multitasking in a dynamic clinical setting.
Onboarding and Compliance Requirements
- Verification of current RN license and primary source verification within 30 days prior to start.
- Completion of required certifications and exams including:
- Pharmacology exam (minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years).
- EKG exam (minimum 80% score, updated every 3 years).
- Core competencies covering HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other regulatory topics (updated every 3 years).
- Health and immunization documentation including:
- MMR (two vaccines or positive titer, no declinations accepted).
- Varicella immunity or vaccination (no declinations accepted).
- Tdap vaccine valid within 10 years (no declinations accepted).
- Hepatitis B vaccination series completion or signed declination.
- Influenza vaccine (optional, with mask requirement if declined during flu season).
- Tuberculosis screening (2-step PPD or IGRA, chest X-ray if positive, annual TB questionnaire).
- Fit testing for respiratory protection (annual).
- Drug screening (12-panel, within 30 days prior to start and annually thereafter).
- Criminal background check and employment verifications as required.
- Submission of professional references and education verifications.
- Completion of non-violent crisis intervention training (CPI, updated every 2 years).
- Submission of a current driver’s license or state ID matching address requirements.
- Onsite completion of nursing contract worker onboarding and education attestations.
