Description

Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bristol, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 18:30 - 7:00)
Schedule: 36 hours per week (36/36 schedule)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Patient ratio: 1:7
  • Every other weekend required
  • No on-call duties
  • Floating to other units may be required
  • General orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable training, starting on Sundays (online CBLs)
  • Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
  • Additional overtime shifts may be flexed based on hospital census without penalty
  • Participation in nursing student support and clinical education is expected alongside clinical care

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications & Compliance

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification may be required depending on unit
  • Other certifications to verify as applicable: PALS, NRP, TNCC (mostly for ER, not required here)
  • Annual completion of Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
  • State RN license primary source verification required

Health & Background Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check required if licensed or working in Tennessee
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start (not annually)
  • Drug screening: Standard 9-panel drug test within 14 days of start (instant test acceptable as placeholder)
  • Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity/declination for:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (series, titer, or declination)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Sept 29 – Mar 31) with facility-specific documentation
  • Respirator fit testing completed onsite; must comply with CDC facial hair guidelines for respirator use

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Photo for badge must meet strict standards (neutral background, no filters, no bulky jewelry, hair visible) and be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Completion of various facility-specific forms and acknowledgements including dress code, smoking/tobacco use policy, contaminated sharps/body fluid exposure statement, influenza policy, and respirator medical evaluation questionnaire (time sensitive)
  • Candidate must complete a staff information form within 24 hours of contract signing, including Epic experience details if applicable

Additional Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position
  • Candidates must be prepared for floating to other units as needed
  • The position supports clinical education for nursing students as part of the role
