ICU RN – Critical Care (Heart Failure ICU)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (13 weeks)


Job Description

  • Provide critical care nursing in a 10-bed Heart Failure ICU.
  • Care for patients with Acute Heart Failure progressing to heart transplant and LVAD.
  • Frequent use of advanced cardiac support devices including IMPELLA and IABP.
  • Swan-Ganz catheter experience is required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1 year of CVICU experience within the last year.
  • Experience in ICU (Intensive Care Unit).
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • ACLS certification.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Immunizations and Titers:
    • MMR: Positive titers within last 15 years or appropriate booster schedule.
    • Varicella: Positive titers within last 15 years or appropriate booster schedule.
    • Hepatitis B: Proof of full series or partial series with signed declination; positive titers accepted within 15 years.
    • Tdap: Vaccination within last 10 years (no declinations accepted).
  • Tuberculosis Screening:
    • 2-Step PPD or IGRA (QuantiFERON/TSPOT) with negative results within last 6 months. If positive, clear chest X-ray (valid for 5 years) and current TB questionnaire required.
  • Fit Test: Completed within 1 year prior to start; must be updated annually.
  • Physical Exam: Pre-employment physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to work without restrictions.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Preferred but not required; medical or religious exemptions accepted with appropriate documentation.
  • Influenza Vaccine: Proof required during flu season (October–March) or mask-wearing with specific declination forms completed.

Background and Compliance

  • Criminal Background Check: Within 6 months of start, including Social Security trace, county searches (7 years), national sex offender registry, and national criminal sweep. International background check required if not a U.S. resident for past 5 years.
  • Fingerprinting: Ohio residents must complete BCI&I and FCRA-compliant national database checks; out-of-state residents require FBI fingerprint check. Attestation allowed if fingerprints pending.
  • Employment Verification: Verification of employment within last 5 years through third-party.
  • Education Verification: Highest level of education verified through third-party; equivalency required for international education.
  • I-9 Attestation: Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. required.
  • OIG and Federal Exclusion Checks: Must be completed within 6 months prior to start.
  • Drug Screen: 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start; instant drug screens not accepted. New screen required if break in assignment exceeds 60 days.

Additional Requirements

  • Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist completed within 1 year prior to start (one-time requirement).
  • Competency Exam: Must score at least 80% on relevant department competency exam within 1 year prior to start.
  • Core Competencies: Must complete HIPAA, Joint Commission, OSHA, and other core modules with at least 80% passing score within 1 year prior to start.
  • Badge Photo: Recent headshot (shoulders up, plain background) in JPEG format.
  • Photo ID: Non-expired government-issued photo ID required.
  • Submission Packet: Includes resume, 2 professional references (within last 2 years), job application, and employment history form.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Contract length is 13 weeks.
  • Telemetry (Tele) is not part of this role.
  • Temporary RN licenses are not accepted.
