Registered Nurse (ICU) – Nebraska, Omaha
Job Details

- Hours per Week: 36 hours guaranteed
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Unit: Medical Surgical ICU
- Beds: 34
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- ICU: 1:1-2
- PCU: 1:4-5
- Med Surg: 1:5-6
Patient Population & Care
- Adults and pediatric patients over 15 years old
- Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, ARDS, MODS, sepsis, stroke, cardiogenic shock, renal failure, general surgery, psych/OD, GI bleeds, cancer-specific surgeries (e.g., esophagectomy), and neuro surgery (experience not required)
- Use of advanced monitoring and equipment such as CVPs, arterial lines, Swan-Ganz catheters, ICP monitoring, Zoll Thermoguard, Bell Mont rapid transfuser
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, paralytics, narcotics, sedation, and antiarrhythmics
- RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips (Draeger heart monitoring system) without telemetry tech support
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes nasal cannula through ventilators; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage vents directly
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- Valid driver’s license required at time of application
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail skills exam during orientation (open book)
- Must comply with fingernail policy: artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas
Orientation & Training
- 2 shifts of unit/department-specific orientation
- Interview with unit leaders required
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Schedule set by manager based on unit needs (no self-scheduling)
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: 2 out of 3 major holidays or every other holiday, based on unit needs
- Floating required to all inpatient units except Maternity and NICU
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
- Charge nurse present on each shift and participates in rapid response teams and codes
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:18
Additional Information
- Fast-paced tertiary hospital environment with fluctuating patient volume
- Successful nurses demonstrate critical thinking, positive attitude, teamwork, willingness to help, and good communication skills
- Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs seeking a short-term contract in a high-acuity, collaborative environment with a focus on critical care skills and teamwork.
