Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg (6 East)
Number of Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adult patients with oncology and trauma diagnoses
Job Details
- Patient care on a mixed unit with PCU and MedSurg patients
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- PCU: 1:4 (days), 1:5-6 (nights)
- Med/Surg: 1:5 (days)
- Common patient diagnoses: Oncology and trauma
- Common drips/medications: Chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix
- RN responsibilities include occasional titration of insulin and cardizem drips
- Float to med/surg and PCU units at the same level of care
- Orientation: 2 days
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Self-scheduling available
- Nursing assistant support and charge nurse present
- Additional unit support: PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician
- Scrubs: Navy blue
- Specialty equipment: Ventilator, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), ICP monitoring (training provided), Alaris IV pumps, Lyko lifts and other lift equipment
Required Certifications & Competencies
- Registered Nurse license (RN)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Chemotherapy certification (Chemo Cert) required
- ONS/ONCC certification preferred
- Competency in ventilator and hemodynamic monitoring equipment (training provided)
- Pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation (failure results in termination)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year of PCU and/or oncology nursing experience required
- Oncology and PCU experience preferred
- Charge nurse experience requires minimum 1 year
- First-time travel nurses are accepted (no prior travel experience required)
Additional Requirements & Policies
- Must have a valid driver’s license at time of submission
- Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
- Candidates may not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities within the specified health system
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
- Required documentation at submission: Date of birth, Social Security number, permanent address, confirmation of recent EPIC experience (within 6 months preferred but not mandatory), and confirmation of no prior employment with associated health systems
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no extensions allowed
