Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 18 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: 6 East – PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg
Number of Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adult patients with oncology and trauma diagnoses
Job Details
- Patient care focus on Progressive Care Unit (PCU), Med Surg, and Oncology patients
- Mixed unit with nurse-to-patient ratios:
- PCU: 1:4
- Med/Surg: 1:5 (days), 1:5-6 (nights)
- Common patient diagnoses include oncology and trauma
- Nurses may float within PCU and MedSurg units at the same level of care
- Orientation period: 2 days
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Self-scheduling available
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Nursing assistant support and additional unit support staff available (PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician)
- Emphasis on teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and compassionate care for diverse patient populations
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- Oncology experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS certification
- ONS/ONCC (Oncology Nursing Society/Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation) certification
Clinical Responsibilities
- Titrate drips including insulin (occasionally) and cardizem
- Administer chemotherapy and other common medications such as heparin and protonix
- Adhere to fingernail policy: artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- Participate in a pass/fail exam during orientation (90% required to pass)
Additional Requirements and Policies
- Must have a valid driver’s license at time of application
- Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius from the facility and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no extensions allowed
- Background information required at submission: date of birth, social security number, permanent address, recent EPIC experience (within 6 months), and employment history with related health systems
