Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Patient Population
- Neonates/Infants and Adults
Unit & Work Environment
- Team-based Labor and Delivery unit
- Procedures include: Labor (Vaginal), C-Sections, Multiple births, Postpartum Hemorrhage, Pregnancy-induced hypertension, D&C
- Unit size: 16 Labor & Delivery beds (average daily census 15), plus 6-bed L&D Triage
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1-2
- Unit systems: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
- Scrub color provided by facility
- Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed
Shift Details
- Day shift: 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM (3 shifts per contract)
- Weekend shifts: 3 per contract
- Call requirements: 2 calls per 6 weeks for AM & PM shifts
- Holiday work expectations:
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
- If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
- If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse license in Georgia
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- ACLS certification
- NRP certification
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- AWHONN Intermediate certification preferred
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse license for the state of Georgia
Compliance & Onboarding
- Full compliance required to start on time; non-compliance results in a 2-week delay due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
- Return to Orientation (RTO) required within 7 days
- RTO blackout dates: Spring Break (April 4th-12th)
Orientation & Training
- Number of Non-Billable Orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment)
- Facility requires review and signing of Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start
Health & Background Requirements
- Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if prior positive TB test)
- Annual TB questionnaire required
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity:
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap highly recommended
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (including amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC)
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required by agency)
- Color blindness test required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry and critical care areas (applicable here due to Labor & Delivery critical care components)
Additional Requirements
- Two clinical references required
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months
- Verification of most recent employer required (can be pending at start with proof it is in process)
This position is ideal for experienced Labor and Delivery RNs with prior travel contract experience who are motivated to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment caring for both neonates and adults.
