Work Schedule

• Day shift, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
• Total 36 hours per week

Unit Description

• Mixed ICU with focus on Cardiovascular ICU (CVICU)
• Must be able to care for fresh or cardiac patients and handle overflow patients

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
• Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
• CALS (Cardiac Advanced Life Support) certification

Required Licensure

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Maryland
• Primary source verification required (NURSYS verification)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
• Education verification and transcript/diploma preferred (must be from an approved nursing program if outside Maryland)
• Physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to meet essential job functions
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (with specific documentation if history of positive TB)
• Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Immunizations/vaccinations:

  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters if negative)
  • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if negative)
  • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or signed declination)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
• Respirator fit test (completed onsite; PAPR training if failed)
• TB Questionnaire updated annually

Competency and Testing Requirements

• Unit-specific competency exams as applicable
• Medication/pharmacology competency exam
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (Relias or Prophecy platform only; must be renewed annually; 3 attempts allowed with remediation process)
• Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication exams required
• Stroke and Trauma CEUs as required by unit (Stroke CEUs must be stroke-related and updated annually; Trauma CEUs required after 27th week of work and renewed annually)
• NIH Stroke Certification (valid for 1 year; specific vendors accepted)
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification if required by unit

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

• Consent to release information form prior to start
• Floating policy and time & attendance policy for contracted staff must be completed and signed
• Review and acknowledge hand hygiene policy
• EKG study guide provided for exam preparation

References and Employment History

• 2 professional references within 2 years of start date required (1 reference for non-acute care)
• Verification of employment for 2 workplaces within last 7 years (W2 or direct supervisor references acceptable)
• Employment application and unit-specific skills checklist required

This position requires a highly skilled RN with cardiovascular ICU experience, appropriate certifications, and compliance with extensive health and background documentation. The role involves caring for complex cardiac patients during long day shifts on a travel contract basis.
