Unit Details

• Unit Type: Emergency Department / Medical-Surgical Swing
• Number of Beds: 22
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Acute: 1 to 4
  • Swing Bed: 1 to 6
  • ED: 1 to 4

Shift & Scheduling

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Shift Times: 7 AM – 7 PM and 7 PM – 7 AM
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
• Call/Standby: Flexible
• Floating: May float to ED holds and may work charge nurse shifts

Patient Care

• Common Diagnoses/Patient Types: Any
• RNs are required to titrate drips (normal titratable and set rate drips)
• Respiratory Equipment: NEBS, O2 nasal and mask; ventilator used only in ED and for transport; CPAP may be used if brought in by swing bed patients
• Telemetry: Yes, RN reads strips in ED

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation provided for day, evening, and night shifts
• First to float orientation included

Requirements

• Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS
• Experience: Minimum 1 year Medical-Surgical experience
• Restrictions: Cannot have worked permanently or PRN at this facility within the last 12 months
• Travel Experience: Not specified / not required
