Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU 4E, 4th Floor East Wing
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (6:30 PM – 6:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Number of Beds: 55
Patient Population: Adults primarily; patients 15 years and older occasionally
Job Details
- Level of Care: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4 (both day and night shifts)
- Shift Length: 12 hours
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Nursing Assistant Support: Yes
- Charge Nurse: Yes
- Additional Unit Support: Educator, Care Managers, Social Workers, Dieticians, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Stroke (CVA), Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA), shortness of breath, COVID-19, subdural hematoma, weakness
- Common Medications/Drips: PCA pumps for pain management, Cardizem, insulin
- Specialty Equipment: Mechanical lifts in every other room, Alaris IV pumps
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
- Unit Challenges: Staffing shortages
- Float Requirements: Yes, ideally to Medical-Surgical areas based on highest need
- Patient Experience Focus: Hourly rounding and responsiveness
- Uniform: Navy blue scrubs for RNs
Required Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- Telemetry competency required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) knowledge preferred
- Valid driver’s license required at time of application (used to verify candidate is within 50-mile radius)
Hiring Policies & Additional Information
- Candidates must not be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with the specified health system within a 50-mile radius.
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination.
- RN candidates must pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%; the exam is open book and based on skills learned. Failure to pass results in contract termination.
- Successful nurses on this unit are those who can effectively manage daily responsibilities and work well within a close-knit team environment.
