Description

Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - NICU

Location

  • Durham, North Carolina

Employment Type

  • Travel / Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Work Schedule

  • Night shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM to 7:30 AM)
  • Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per schedule (schedule published in 6-week blocks)

Patient Population

  • Neonates, Infants, Pediatrics, Adolescents, Adults

Required Experience

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in NICU, pediatric critical care, pediatrics, and emergency department (ED)
  • Must have Level IV NICU experience
  • Experience with high frequency jet ventilator and oscillating ventilator
  • Experience with pediatric cardiac anomalies

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Licensure

  • Current North Carolina Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) license required (allow 2-4 weeks for processing)

Orientation

  • Bi-weekly orientation sessions

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid government-issued photo ID (e.g., driver’s license)
  • Social Security Card (if used for I9 verification)
  • Background checks within 90 days of start, including SSN trace, county, alias, nationwide, sex offender, international (if applicable), education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, OFAC sanctions list
  • Education verification from an accredited Respiratory Care program
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months (with specific documentation if history of positive PPD)
  • Required immunizations/vaccinations with no exemptions accepted:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Measles (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Mumps (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Rubella (1 vaccine or positive titer)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Polio vaccine or attestation
    • Seasonal flu vaccine (required annually during flu season; no exemptions)
  • Negative 10-panel drug test including THC within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
  • Two professional references from employment within 12 months of start (at least one supervisor)
  • Employment application with 7 years of work history

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of unit-specific competency exam
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) Blue Card training provided onsite if not already held
  • Completion of required online orientation modules prior to start
  • Setup of a facility-specific guest account prior to clearance to access necessary systems and complete orientation
  • Competency checklists (CBOs) to be completed within 3 weeks after start date

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist
  • Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year
  • Experience working with pediatric patients
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification

Notes

  • First-time travelers and local candidates within 75 miles are eligible
  • No on-call requirement for this position
