Description

Registered Nurse - ICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (4 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 48 hours
Schedule Details:

  • Every other weekend and every other holiday required
  • No time off approved for 4th of July or between 07/12-07/19
  • Time off approval limited to 40 hours; no return-to-work (RTO) approved during first 2 weeks
  • Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed

Job Description

  • Float pool position covering various ICU and intermediate care units including:
    • Medical ICU
    • Thoracic Cardiovascular ICU
    • Coronary Care Unit
    • Surgical Trauma ICU (Level 1)
    • Neuro & Neurosurgery ICU and Intermediate Unit
    • Critical Care and Intermediate Care Special Pathogens Unit (COVID)
    • Thoracic Cardiovascular Intermediate Unit
    • Surgical Trauma Intermediate Unit
    • ED Boarders (patients admitted but boarding in ED prior to room assignment)
  • Must adhere to facility’s float policy
  • Epic electronic health record experience required

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Experience

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse – ICU
  • Minimum years of experience: 1 year ICU experience within the last year
  • Prior travel experience: Not required

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 60 days of start, updated annually
  • Education verification through official transcript (photocopies not accepted)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated every 30 days
  • Fingerprinting required for Behavioral Health assignments only; otherwise may be required case-by-case
  • Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check required only for Behavioral Health units
  • Drug screening: 10-panel including marijuana and fentanyl, within 2 months of start and updated annually
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (no exemptions allowed)
    • 2-step TB test or Qgold within 12 months (Tspot not accepted)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 vaccines or positive titer, no exemptions)
    • Hepatitis B surface antibody positive titer or antigen titer per protocol
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or titer; declination accepted but must be documented)
    • Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (no exemptions)

Certifications and Competencies

  • Pass/Fail cardiac rhythm interpretation test required during orientation for adult inpatient RN positions
  • Additional certifications such as PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment (verify with recruiter)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification required only for Behavioral Health nurses

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
  • Professional appearance guidelines must be reviewed and acknowledged
  • Facility-specific compliance and screening forms must be completed prior to start
  • Radiation badges are not provided for new candidates; if required, supplied by facility
  • References: Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
  • Skills checklist and competency exams must be updated annually as applicable

This position offers a challenging ICU float role with a reputable medical center, requiring strong critical care skills, flexibility, and adherence to strict compliance and certification standards. Night shift availability and ability to work a floating schedule across multiple ICU units are essential.
