Registered Nurse - Ortho (Travel/Contract)

Location: Maryville, Tennessee
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:45 - 07:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36

Job Description

• Night shift with every other weekend coverage (may change based on need)
• Floating to like units may be required based on skill set
• Medication system used: Omnicell
• Must have at least 1 year of EPIC experience
• Prefer candidates with experience in teaching and community hospital settings
• Not accepting first-time travelers

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Tennessee
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 1 year of orthopedics experience within the last year
• One completed travel assignment
• Experience with Epic
• Required certifications:

  • ACLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Driver’s License/State ID required immediately upon signing for computer access and must be carried on duty
• Background check: 7-year history within 12 months of start, including alias and multi-state searches
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
• Education verification of highest level required (diplomas not accepted as placeholders)
• Primary source verification of RN license within 30 days of start; license must not expire within 30 days of start
• Drug screen: 5-panel required within 1 year of start and updated annually
• Physical exam within 1 year of start attesting ability to meet physical demands
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Negative TB test (True 2-step PPD, Quantiferon Gold, or Tspot) within 90 days of start
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (if working/floating in high-risk areas)
  • Flu vaccine or approved exemption required annually (not required for remote workers)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer or 2 vaccines, with second vaccine pending allowed if collected within 28 days
  • Hepatitis B vaccination series, positive titer, or signed declination
• Respirator Fit Test completed onsite during orientation (N95 masks commonly used)

Orientation and Training

• Online Cornerstone modules (~12 hours) must be completed within 72 hours of assignment; required before start
• 16 hours of non-billable orientation onsite separate from online modules
• Pass/Fail testing (Medication and Arrhythmia exams) required for all RN candidates except prebook or non-clinical; two attempts allowed with 84% passing score
• Annual competency exams and core training (Parts I, II, III) required, covering universal precautions, cultural diversity, pain management, OSHA, TJC National Patient Safety Goals, and age-specific care
