Job Details

- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit Beds: 31
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:4-5
- Nights: 1:5-6
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: As needed
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: May float to other MedSurg units and occasionally ER; no mom/baby float; Telemetry patients covered by Tele RN for strip reading
- Orientation: 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation on the floor
- Dress Code: No specific scrub color; scrubs not provided
- Scheduling: Manager-made schedule; block scheduling considered if unit needs are met
Patient Population & Unit Information
- Adults and geriatrics
- Common diagnoses: Stroke (acute and stroke unit, no thrombectomies), hypertension, COPD, cellulitis, congestive heart failure, atrial fibrillation (non-RVR), chest pain, post-ICU MI, altered mental status/behavioral health, some telemetry, surgical overflow (excluding joint or cranial surgeries)
- Oncology core staff responsible for chemotherapy administration; no oncology provider on site during the day
- Unit culture described as family-oriented with strong teamwork; supportive environment for travelers
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Lasix, Heparin); Lasix experience preferred but not mandatory
- Experience with tracheostomy care and BiPAP preferred but not required
- RNs troubleshoot BiPAP and manage stable trachs with blow-by oxygen
- Telemetry monitor techs handle strip reading; RNs are not required to interpret EKG strips
- Charge Nurse present on each shift as a resource, usually without patient assignment unless staffing requires
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license valid in North Dakota
- BLS Certification required
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification required
- Experience: Open to first-time travel nurses; preferred experience with trach and BiPAP
- Prior travel experience: Not required
Additional Notes
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any related facilities in the area
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals after submission
