Registered Nurse (RN) – Behavioral Health – Inpatient (Nights)
Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Shift: Nights
Hours per Day: 12
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide nursing care in an inpatient behavioral health setting, performing the nursing process as the basis for patient care. Responsible for assessing patient needs, developing and reassessing care plans in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, and coordinating care with physicians. Provide direction and oversight to licensed and non-licensed staff, and may function as a charge nurse. Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care while maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient care needs and develop individualized plans of care.
- Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to provide coordinated nursing care.
- Educate patients and families regarding discharge and aftercare planning.
- Provide milieu management and support a recovery-focused, person-centered environment.
- Document, report, and verify all necessary patient information according to policies.
- Monitor and report any potential safety risks to physicians.
- Serve as a clinical leader by delegating and coordinating staff assignments and promoting staff development.
- Utilize and review patient care protocols and standards of practice, contributing to quality improvement.
- May be responsible for training direct care staff and overseeing medication and physical health activities.
- May assist with scheduling, staffing, and obtaining pre-authorizations.
- Uphold professional image and organizational mission, providing spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients.
- Maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in required programmatic training.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Michigan
- Minimum 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with pediatric patients
- Experience in charge nurse or leadership roles within nursing

- Opportunity to work up to 48 hours per week depending on demand; additional shifts are not guaranteed.
