Registered Nurse (MedSurg Float) - Bismarck, North Dakota

Job Details

  • Specialty: MedSurg Float
  • Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights
  • Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Unit: Medical-Surgical Float (61 combined beds)
  • Patient Types:
    • Surgical patients (total joints, fractures, bariatric, urology, general)
    • Medical patients (CHF, CVA, SOB, diabetic issues)
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
    • Days: 1:5
    • Nights: 1:6
  • Nurse Aide Ratio: 1:15
  • Floating: Required (unit-specific float checklist and orientation provided)
  • Call/Standby: Yes, with LCD (likely a device or protocol)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
  • Dress Code: Any scrub color

Unit Features

  • Telemetry present; monitor tech reads strips, RN confirms
  • Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow devices
  • No charge nurse or house supervisor role on this unit
  • RNs are not required to titrate drips; no common titratable drips used

Required Qualifications

  • Current RN license
  • BLS Certification
  • Experience matching current med/surg float requirements (implied med/surg experience)

Orientation

  • Travel Clinical Bootcamp Orientation (CBO)
  • Unit-specific float checklist orientation
  • Orientation covers end-of-week, night shifts, and floating procedures

This position is suitable for experienced MedSurg RNs comfortable with floating across surgical and medical patient populations, working night shifts, and participating in call/standby duties.
