Registered Nurse (RN) – CVU 5E Unit
Location
- Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Details
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 1830-0700)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Required to float to same or lower acuity units
- Orientation: 1-2 shifts tailored to experience and needs
- Return to Office (RTO): Required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approved
Unit Description
- Combined unit: Cardio/General ICU, PCU, MedSurg
- 18 beds
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4 generally, 1:3 for post-surgical patients in first 24 hours
- Patient population: Intermediate care and downgraded CVICU patients; supports thoracic program, electrophysiology, cath lab, structural heart
- Common diagnoses: Cath lab patients, CVAs, CHF, A-fib with RVR, and other cardiac/vascular conditions
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 1 year experience with this patient population (cardiac/vascular intermediate care)
- Must be able to titrate drips (e.g., amiodarone, nitroglycerin, nicardipine, epinephrine, diltiazem)
Clinical Responsibilities
- Interpret telemetry strips independently
- Work with respiratory therapy equipment (BiPAP, CPAP, nasal cannula) troubleshooting only
- Charge nurse present on each shift (rarely takes patient assignment)
- Collaborate with hospitalists and intensivists in-house 24/7; cardiology on call after hours
- Support from respiratory therapists and tele/monitor techs available
Policies and Requirements
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation
- Artificial nails prohibited; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- Driver’s license required at submission to verify candidate is outside a 50-mile radius
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with a specific large healthcare system within 50 miles
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
